9.3.3: Manage Vehicle Speed

This page shows the collection of processes that make up the Manage Vehicle Speed facility within the Manage Work Zones function. These processes monitor a vehicle's speed as it passes through a work zone, determine if a speed violation has occurred, and report to traffic and maintenance and construction agencies, as well as enforcement agencies.

Individual vehicle speeds through the work zone are monitored and can be aggregated to provide an overall speed. Unsafe or excessive vehicle speeds, including environmental conditions, are detected. The information is then provided to the management functions. Speed enforcement can be supported by monitoring speeds, providing camera images, and by reporting violations to traffic management or maintenance and construction management agencies, posting on driver information devices such as dynamic message signs and in-vehicle communications devices, or informing an enforcement agency.

There are 5 processes defined as Process Specifications (PSpecs) in this collection:

1) Collect Vehicle Speed (9.3.3.1)
2) Monitor Vehicle Speed in Work Zone (9.3.3.2)
3) Monitor Vehicle Speed on Roadway (9.3.3.3)
4) Support Vehicle Speed Enforcement (9.3.3.4)
5) Manage Speeds at Roadside (9.3.3.5)
