Commercial Vehicle OBE --> Parking Area Equipment:
commercial vehicle identities

Definitions

commercial vehicle identities (Information Flow): Identification information for the Commercial Vehicle (e.g., license plate number or USDOT number), Freight Equipment (e.g., container, chassis, or trailer identification), Carrier, and Driver.

Commercial Vehicle OBE (Source Physical Object): The Commercial Vehicle On-Board Equipment (OBE) resides in a commercial vehicle and provides the sensory, processing, storage, and communications functions necessary to support safe and efficient commercial vehicle operations. It provides two-way communications between the commercial vehicle drivers, their fleet managers, attached freight equipment, and roadside officials. A separate 'Vehicle OBE' physical object supports vehicle safety and driver information capabilities that apply to all vehicles, including commercial vehicles. The Commercial Vehicle OBE supplements these general ITS capabilities with capabilities that are specific to commercial vehicles.

Parking Area Equipment (Destination Physical Object): 'Parking Area Equipment' provides electronic monitoring and management of parking facilities. It supports an I2V link to the Vehicle that allows electronic collection of parking fees and monitors and controls parking meters that support conventional parking fee collection. It also includes the instrumentation, signs, and other infrastructure that monitors parking lot usage and provides local information about parking availability and other general parking information. The two primary approaches to monitoring parking area usage are sensing vehicles within parking spots or counting vehicles as they come in and as they leave the area. This portion of the functionality must be located in the parking area where it can monitor, classify, and share information with customers and their vehicles. See also the separate 'Parking Management Center' physical object that may be located in a back office, remote from the parking area, which interfaces with the financial infrastructure and broadly disseminates parking information to other operational centers in the region.

Communication Solutions

Solutions are sorted in ascending Gap Severity order. The Gap Severity is the parenthetical number at the end of the solution.

Selected Solution

US: SAE J3067 (J2735 SE) - Local Unicast Wireless (1609.2)

Solution Description

This solution is used within the U.S.. It combines standards associated with US: SAE J3067 (J2735 SE) with those for V-X: Local Unicast Wireless (1609.2). The US: SAE J3067 (J2735 SE) standards include a proposed solution for the upper-layers to implement V2X information flows that do not yet have fully standardized messages, functionality or performance characteristics. The V-X: Local Unicast Wireless (1609.2) standards include lower-layer standards that support local-area unicast wireless solutions applicable to North America, such as WAVE DSRC, LTE-V2X, LTE, Wi-Fi, etc.
